The town of Los Alamos was founded in 1876, when the stagecoach line was rerouted through the area and two local ranchers realized an opportunity. Four years later, local Wells Fargo agent J.D. Snyder built the 1880 Union, a stagecoach home station complete with store and lodging. It burned down on February 16, 1893, but was rebuilt in 1915 as a hotel and saloon.  The Santa Maria Times, on February 6th of that year, printed:

    In 1972, then owner Dick Langdon restored the Union to its original condition using wood from local barns and sheds, hiring an expert cabinetmaker to meticulously rebuild a replica of its 1880 façade.

    The previous and present structures have been a part of Santa Barbara county history for over a century.  The Union Hotel has hosted and withstood generations of travelers who came here via stagecoach, railroad, and early motor car.  Newspapers in early 1881 show records of grand wedding receptions held in the hotel’s parlor.  Its long tradition of hospitality spanning major historical events such as world war I and II, the great depression and prohibition continue to this day.
